On Thursday 26th September, year 10 and 11 students, from Compass Community School Essex, visited Tendring Jobs and Skills Fair, at Princes’ Theatre, Clacton-on-Sea.
Organised by CCS Essex’s careers champion, Abi Overton, the trip was designed to make students more aware of career opportunities, once year 11 finishes.
The students visited the careers event and were, at first, overwhelmed by the range of stalls and opportunities on offer. But they soon settled in and were discussing future careers, such as freight handling, hairdressing and journalism, with some local influential people in the different fields. They came away with a good deal of knowledge and enthusiasm, along with the obligatory flyers and free pens! 🖋️
The students particularly enjoyed the opportunity to try out their CPR skills at the Essex ambulance stall.
The event helped to focus students’ sense of what they would like to go on to become once they leave CCS Essex. Discussions with the various employers not only enthused them but also gave them a flavour of what they need to achieve whilst still at school – to then build upon at college and sixth form.
This was a very successful trip, with students widely acknowledging they left the event knowing far more about what they want to do when they leave school. CCS Essex say they will definitely be attending again next year and are already looking at similar events in neighbouring areas for later on this year.
