Students at CCS Wheatley Park recently took part in an interactive session on drug and alcohol awareness. This was led by Becky Lewis from U-Turn, Swindon’s drug education and support service.
As part of the session, students had the chance to wear specially designed goggles that mimic the effects of alcohol and certain drugs. While wearing them, students attempted simple tasks like catching a ball and aiming darts at a target—quickly realizing how much coordination and judgment can be affected.
In addition to these hands-on activities, students were able to see examples of different substances and ask questions about their risks and effects. The session provided valuable insights into the dangers of drug and alcohol use, reinforcing key messages from the school’s PSHE curriculum.
This highly engaging experience helped students understand the real-life impact of substance use, and gave them practical knowledge on how to stay safe. Many thanks to Becky and U-Turn for delivering such an informative and thought-provoking session.
