There has been great excitement at CCS Hemsworth, as students have launched themselves into following their passions.
Among them, a budding young photographer has created some great action shots, using figures he brought in from home. These have been photographed in different locations, using a range of effects, and have produced some great pictures. The student has been so inspired by this work, that he is considering developing his talents by studying photography at college.
The same student is also experimenting with stop motion videography. He has developed characters and story lines, and has added sound effects and voice-overs to his films. The standard of his work has been so high that he is entering it for the skills section of his Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver award.
Two other students have also been working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s awards. Both students have been developing their biking skills and have been out on several rides – to complete the physical section of their bronze and silver awards. The students have also been putting their bike skills to good environmental use, by taking part in the Trash Free Trails programme – which encourages people to pick up single use waste, wherever they see it. So far, the pair have collected waste from local parks, skateparks and forests – making these important resources better for everyone.
The year 9 student will soon be taking his biking to the next level, when he attends a three day residential course in Wales. As a part of this adventure, he will be going to Bike Park Wales, where he can experience different styles of bike tracks and jumps.
Another Hemsworth student has recently followed his passion for Liverpool FC by visiting Anfield stadium. As a huge fan of the club, the student enjoyed seeing the different areas of the grounds, as well as coming face to face with the many trophies Liverpool have won over the years.
Manchester City vs Club Brugge provided the opportunity for another of Hemsworth’s football fans to follow his passion. Joining students from CCS North, the UEFA Champions League game provided the perfect setting to see top level football. Having been a long-standing fan of Manchester City, the student was delighted to finally watch his team play – overcoming his initial anxieties to thoroughly enjoy the experience. (This was particularly so, as City won 3 – 1!)
