On Wednesday 1st October, learners from Compass Community School Aylward Park explored Saxmundham Museum as part of their local History project. The trip offered a fascinating look at the rich heritage of Saxmundham and gave learners the chance to interact with the past in memorable and meaningful ways.
The museum, run by volunteers and based in the heart of Saxmundham, is home to a collection that tells the story of the town and its people. Itâs filled with artefacts and exhibits that bring history to lifeâfrom local trade and agriculture to wartime life and social history.
During their visit, learners got hands-on with history. They handled real medals and World War 1 bullets, which gave them a tangible sense of the stories behind the objects. Trying on World War 2 helmets and gas masks was another highlightâgiving everyone a glimpse into the lives of those who experienced wartime Britain.
