The start of the school year was marked in style at Seacole Park, with staff and students enjoying a range of exciting days out. Year 9 enjoyed an adventure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park (which has been reported on in a separate post). Enrich, Discover and Explore classes’ trip reports are shared below.
Enrich Class Try Their Hands at Chocolate Making 🍫
Seacole Park’s enrich class had a great day out to York’s Chocolate Story, as a start to their new academic year.
Staff and enrich students chose the venue together, deciding on an itinerary that would combine teaching students about the long history of York’s chocolate industry with a visit to the railway museum. As a new class, it was a great opportunity for students to get to know each other, as well as bonding with the Seacole Park staff who will be working with them this year.

As a part of York’s Chocolate story, students got to taste chocolate in the different forms that it is made. They also had the chance to create their own chocolate lollies and tasted some fresh chocolate – made in front of them by a professional chocolatier.
Staff and students really enjoyed the trip, with enrich teacher Nathaniel O’Connell describing it as, “A lovely trip out with my new class. Really enjoyed our day out and look forward to many to come.”
All in all, this was a highly successful trip on only the second day back to school!
Swimming and Amusements in Bridlington for Discover Students 🏊
September 4th, was a great day to be a student at Seacole Park, with a number of exciting trips marking the start of the new school year. Discover class enjoyed a great day out in Bridlington as part of their team building day.
Staff and students enjoyed travelling together on the train. For one student, it was the first time ever on a train. 🚂
Once in Bridlington, the day focussed on building peer to peer relationships, as well as building trust and communication with staff. The combination of a great swimming session, at the leisure centre, followed by a trip to the amusements proved more than enough to accomplish this. In a trip that was greatly enjoyed by all, students were particularly impressed with the speed of the slide! 🛝
A smashing start to the new school year and one that discover teacher, Joe Norton, says is very likely to take place again.
Aquarium Visit and Climbing Fun for Explore Class. 🐠
As a part of Seacole Park’s team building trips, Explore class were able to visit two attractions.
The first was to The Deep, which is one of the largest aquariums in the UK. Whilst there, students were able to see a wide variety of marine life, including sharks and fish. The highlight of this part of the day was the penguin exhibit, where students were able to attend a live talk on penguins, as well as view them in a close up setting.
After learning about the marine environment in the morning, students then spent their afternoon session at the Big Fun play area. This was a large indoor venue, with slides, climbing frames and other fun activities that the children were able to enjoy. The children engaged very well with this, with some of them surprising themselves with their climbing and jumping skills.
Students took part in deciding the venues that should be visited during their day, and chose those two places, based upon what they felt each child would enjoy the most. They also helped to plan the costings and itinerary of the day.
Everyone agreed that this was a very successful team building event, with many positive relationships developed over the course of the event. Staff were most impressed with the way that students conducted themselves. Students communicated very well with staff and each other and were extremely well behaved at all times.
