Seacole Park’s Learners Earn Bikeability Awards 🥇

Three learners from Seacole Park recently gained their Bikeability Level 1 and 2 awards. This involved two days of intensive learning, followed by rigorous testing, to ensure that the necessary cycling skills had been mastered. 🚴

Run by East Riding’s Bikeability team, the level 1 course took place on Friday 20th September, with level 2 being completed the following Monday.

Although the first morning was spent in a traffic free environment, the rest of the course was spent on the open roads – with riders wearing appropriate safety equipment, including high vis vests throughout.

The course was designed to give learners a sound understanding of the skills that would keep them safe when cycling on the road. It included basic bicycle set-up and maintenance, use of brakes and gears, riding with one hand, slow riding and balancing, riding while looking behind, close control skills and cycling around obstacles. As the course progressed, learners gained confidence in riding on the road around moving obstacles and navigating challenging junctions.

All three riders thoroughly enjoyed the experience. “I feel much more confident in approaching junctions and know how to signal,” said one learner, which the others strongly agreed with. All riders are now looking forward to doing the level 3 course, where their new skills will be developed even further.

The exemplary commitment demonstrated by the learners was noted by the East Riding staff, who commented that, “The behaviour and commitment from all the learners was brilliant. We hope to be back at Seacole Park very soon.”

Having passed their Bikeability tests, the three riders were awarded their certificates, along with Bikeability badges and a magazine.

Many thanks to Mr Tyler, who arranged the course and to the East Riding Bikeability team who worked so hard to run the event.

And congratulations to the three learners, who did so well over the highly demanding two days!
