Vicarage Park

Location: Shropshire, West Midlands

Motivate | Educate | Inspire

Compass Community School Vicarage Park is an innovative new provision for 8-18 year-old pupils with Special Educational Needs located in rural Shropshire. We are part of a passionate, well-respected and progressive family of schools, where everyone is valued and encouraged to reach their potential, regardless of their starting points or barriers to learning.

We are a small independent special school, which provides a personalised education for up to 14 pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). All of our pupils have complex needs, behaviours which challenge, and many will have suffered significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences. As a trauma informed organisation, all staff are provided with extensive therapeutic training and support. Our closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and, most importantly, our pupils can work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.

Head of School

Julie Neil

I am delighted to be able to write my first letter as the new Headteacher of Vicarage Park School. I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have been chosen to continue to build upon the success the school has already achieved under the care of Mr Katarzynski

In 2019 I was appointed as Assistant head teacher of Brays School, prior to this I spent 15 years as the Curriculum leader at Calthorpe Special School, whilst being a National SEN consultant and awarded Science teacher of the year. Being a mother of two boys, I am very much aware of the responsibility that my staff and I have in ensuring that the highest standard of teaching and learning is achieved together with providing the therapy and skills each individual requires towards independence. We have a hugely committed team and wonderful students which of course, is a great place for any new head to start!

The needs of our students are always paramount in the life and decision making within a school. I strongly believe in providing the pupils with exciting, creative and meaningful learning experiences, which build their enthusiasm for learning and help them to grow and develop positively in a variety of ways. I think it is crucial to involve the students and their families/ carers and our local community as partners in their education. I know how vital working in partnership with parents really is in order for children to find school a positive and rewarding experience. As key educators in your children’s lives, I feel that it is important that you have a voice and that as a school we are approachable and allocate time to listen to your  thoughts about the school.

You can be assured that as Headteacher, I will strive to create the best education for your child whilst they are members of our school family.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Julie Neil

Our Facilities

We love our school and we think you will too! Our school has:

  • Outside space
  • Modern, light and fresh learning spaces
  • Dedicated therapy room

We are committed to

developing young people who are responsible, caring and respectful of others, and who have a strong sense of fair-ness and what is ‘right’. We want them to treat others as they would like to be treated themselves and to understand and celebrate diversity and difference.
The school will help our children and young people to develop an inner discipline and will encourage pupils to not just ‘follow the crowd’ – they will make up their own minds and be ready to accept responsibility for what they do. They will grow through making choices and holding to the choices that they have made. They will want to be honest with themselves and with others.

Our Ethos

  • A passion to include everyone
  • A desire to treat everyone equally
  • An ability to respect difference and diversity
  • To celebrate all achievement
  • A commitment to healthy, open and respectful relationships
  • A deep sense of purpose that things can change and be transformed for the better
  • A sense of perseverance to keep going for as long as it take
  • An acceptance that failure is not the opposite of success, it is a part of success
