Curriculum

We will have a rolling intake whilst we are building our school to capacity from January 2027. This means that students will be entering the school at different points within their educational journey and undoubtedly will have missed parts of school learning and/or have gaps. To cater for this, we are aiming to develop a broad sequenced and spiralised curriculum that allows teachers and teaching staff to support all students, at any point of entry. We have a cohort of KS2, KS3 and KS4 pupils and are focusing on pitching the learning at an appropriate level to meet their needs.

We have begun adding KS2 pupils who will experience the full impact of our curriculum, whilst the current cohort will be support in reaching their full potential through interventions alongside their curriculum. At CCS Randall Park school, we offer a diverse range of subjects and learning opportunities through our Core, Parallel, and Broader  Curriculums tailored to meet the needs of students across
all key stages:

Key Stage 2 (KS2)

• Core Subjects: English, Phonics, Maths, Science, History, Religious Education (RE), Art, Computing, PSHE/RSE, and Geography.
• Enrichment Activities: Sensory cooking, Physical Education (PE), Play to Learn and Music sessions.

Key Stage 3 (KS3)

• Core Subjects: English, Phonics, Maths, Science, History, RE, Computing, Art, PSHE/RSE, Careers, and Geography.
• Enrichment Activities: ASDAN Cooking, PE, Music, and selected ASDAN modules.

Key Stage 4 (KS4)

• GCSE Subjects: English, Maths, Science, Entry Level History, and/or Geography.
• Additional Studies: PSHE/RSE, Careers, ASDAN Cooking, daily reading sessions, and weekly PE lessons / Gym workouts. Work experience opportunities in Years 10 and 11.
• Alternative Pathways: Functional Skills qualifications are available where appropriate.

Baseline and Ongoing Assessments

To support student progress and identify learning needs, we conduct:

• Baseline Assessments: At the start of the academic year or when a student joins APS, focusing on English, Reading, Phonics, Maths, Science, and Social Emotional Wellbeing
  (SEW).
• Termly Assessments: Regular evaluations to monitor progress and address emerging needs.

Interventions for Identified Gaps

When assessments reveal gaps in learning, targeted interventions are implemented, including:

• Literacy and Numeracy Support: Phonics sessions, 1:1 reading, and IDL programs for literacy or maths.
• Specialised Support: Interventions specified in Section F of students’ EHCPs, such as touch typing, handwriting, or Emotional Literacy Support Assistance (ELSA).

This comprehensive approach ensures students receive the support they need to access learning, address gaps, and make continuous progress throughout their time at APS.

Our curriculum is centralised for all Compass Schools and sequenced to enable students to build on previous knowledge and skills. We ensure that lessons are adapted where required and learning is repeated (as part of the spiralised approach) to allow for students to retain what they have been taught. Our aim is to allow for the golden thread to pull everything together, to provide students with a broad curriculum experience whilst ensuring their needs are met to allow personal development. This includes aspects of British Values and SMSC which is embedded through our PSHE lessons and Cultural Calendar.

Starting from January 2027, CCS Randall Park School operate a rolling intake of KS2, KS3 and KS4 as we grow the school to full capacity.

This approach means students may join us at different stages of their educational journey, with varying gaps in their prior learning. To address this, we are committed to delivering a broad, sequenced, and spiralised curriculum designed to support students at any point of entry.
