Primary learners at CCS Boleyn Park recently kicked off their new science topic, Rocks, with an energetic outdoor lesson exploring the local area. Armed with magnifying glasses and curiosity, learners headed out on a rock hunt, looking closely at different textures, colours and shapes in their immediate surroundings.
The hands-on activity made science memorable and encouraged learners to ask questions, make observations and draw their own conclusions. Being outside and physically handling materials helped build a real connection with the subject, laying strong foundations for more complex scientific thinking.
The class are now looking forward to taking their investigation further, by comparing their local finds with rocks found on the beach. It is hoped that exploring differences between locations will build analytical skills and deepen their understanding of the natural world.
