Learners at CCS Aylward Park were treated to an exciting visit recently, as a Ā£10,000 robotic dogānicknamed Robodogāmade a special appearance on site. Operated by Atkins Realis, the robot is used at Sizewell Power Station to carry out hazardous tasks, including work involving toxic waste.
The visit formed part of the schoolās careers programme, offering learners a first-hand look at the possibilities within the world of engineering and technology. Guided by the visiting team, learners took turns to operate Robodog, issuing commands and exploring how robotics can be used to complete complex and dangerous jobs.
In another activity, learners wore VR headsets to step inside a virtual power station. They explored how different systems operate, gaining insight into the technology behind clean energy and the kind of roles that exist in that environment.
Engagement was high throughout the visit. Learners asked thoughtful questions, supported each other in the activities, and showed real curiosity about where a career in engineering or technology could take them.
Atkins Realis are working closely with the school to plan further opportunities linked to careers, ensuring learners can continue to explore their interests and build links with employers. Robodog may have been the star of the day, but the focus remained on sparking ambition and opening learners’ eyes to future pathways.
