Late November marked the opening of Compass Community School Redwood Park – and learners are embracing life in their new school with clear enthusiasm.
As a small, specialist SEND provision, Redwood Park is offering a calm, inclusive setting where learners can build confidence and re-engage with education. Already, a strong sense of community is growing. Learners are building friendships, settling into tutor groups and exploring the school’s sensory rooms. They have recently began taking part in Forest School sessions and sharing lunchtimes – where conversation and laughter are shaping a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Older learners are routinely supporting younger ones in activities like table tennis, indicative of the inclusivity that Compass schools are widely known for.
Future traditions seem to be establishing themselves, with the well-supported Daily Mile setting a calm, energetic tone for the day – offering learners time to stretch their legs, chat with staff and peers, and enjoy some fresh air together.
Learners have quickly found their feet at Redwood Park, and their early feedback has been deeply encouraging. “This is my school now, it feels safe,” said one. Another simply shared, “I love this school.”
Parents are also noticing the difference. One said, “My child is so much happier – they talk to me on the way home about their day. They used to just sit in the car and not speak, but now they’re pleased to be coming into school.” Another parent described how life at home has changed – “It’s so odd as a parent to not be chasing support anymore. Now that my child is happy in school, I can even go back to work or meet friends for a coffee.”
Next week, learners are heading to Ride High to begin equine therapy sessions – an opportunity many are looking forward to.
With a wide range of exciting opportunities on offer, Redwood Park has rapidly become a place where learners feel safe, supported and proud to belong. After enjoying such a positive start, staff and families are excited to see what lies ahead.
