🧠 Protecting Your Wellbeing During the Holidays

Protecting your wellbeing matters. Although the holiday period can be filled with laughter, relaxation and quality time with loved ones, for many young people and adults, it can also bring stress, pressure and change to daily routines. Recognising this helps us to plan ahead and care for ourselves and each other.

Here are some simple, effective ways to protect your wellbeing over the break:

Keep a gentle routine

A calm, predictable rhythm can make a big difference. Try to keep regular mealtimes and sleep patterns, and include relaxing activities like reading or listening to music. A gentle routine creates a sense of safety and structure.

Get outside and stay active

Spending time in nature is good for both body and mind. Wrap up warm and go for a walk, visit a local park, or explore a nearby trail. Fresh air and movement are powerful tools for managing low mood or restlessness.

Balance time together and time alone

The holidays often involve family gatherings or visits — but quiet time is important too. Encourage solo activities like drawing, journaling or building something. It helps everyone recharge.

Be mindful about screen time

Screens are tempting, especially during time off. Agree together on healthy limits and offer fun alternatives like crafts, board games or a shared story. It’s about balance, not banning.

Talk and listen

Check in regularly. Ask how people are feeling, and listen without rushing to fix things. It’s okay to have off days. Being heard can be the biggest support of all.

Find joy in simple things

You don’t need to spend a lot to feel good. Try a home picnic, a library visit, or a family film night. Small pleasures build connection and boost mood.

The holidays don’t have to be perfect — they just need to be kind. Wishing all our Compass learners and families a peaceful, happy break. Your wellbeing matters: don’t forget to protect it.🌟
