As tomatoes and potatoes flourish in the allotment and apple trees in the orchard bow heavy with fruit, learners at CCS Owlswick are approaching the end of another memorable term. This time of year has become a true celebration of the great outdoors, with warm, sunny days balanced by misty mornings and cobwebs glistening with morning dew.
Itâs been wonderful to see learners engaging so enthusiastically with nature â picking bowls of raspberries, spotting newts in the pond and spending afternoons playing football or whittling by the fire pit. The stunning South Downs provide the perfect backdrop for these moments, with impromptu drumming sessions for KS3 learners and outdoor lessons in maths, English and creative photography adding to the magic.
For the Year 11 learners, however, the last few months have been focused on GCSE exams. Staff are filled with pride seeing how calmly and responsibly they have approached this challenge â a testament to how far theyâve come. Many staff members have supported them throughout their time at Owlswick, watching them grow into thoughtful, resilient young men who now set an example for the younger learners.
Beyond the classroom, Year 11 learners have enjoyed end-of-term trips, creating lasting memories and building valuable life skills. From charity shop budget challenges, bowling and karaoke, to rounds of pitch & putt and adventures like forest walks at Harrisons Rocks and rock pooling at Seaford Head, thereâs been plenty to celebrate.
KS3 learners, too, have thrived with weekly gym sessions, learning patience and discipline, and enjoying social time together â whether at the fire pit or during Friday football with Albion in the Community.
As this term closes, we look forward to seeing our Year 11s take their next steps with confidence, and we canât wait to welcome our younger learners back in September, ready to continue their journey from children to young adults.
