On a quiet Friday afternoon, learners at Fen Park took part in a calm, confidence-building session with snakes. With steady hands and focused attention, they spent time observing, handling and caring for the animals in a relaxed setting. For some learners, this was about meeting fear with curiosity. For others, it was a chance to slow down, regulate and stay present.

Compass Community School Willow Dean has been awarded the Woodland Trust’s Green Tree Schools bronze award, recognising the steady work learners have been doing through their Forest School activities. The Green Tree Schools Award is a national scheme, which supports schools to help children and young people connect with woods, trees and the natural world through practical, hands-on learning. Schools progress through bronze, silver and gold levels by building outdoor learning into everyday practice and encouraging care for local environments.

South West Norfolk representative Terry Jermy spent time in school alongside Compass’ Managing Director of Education, Rebecca Slayford, taking the opportunity to see what learning looks like day to day at Eld Park.

CCS Fen Park has achieved the Foundation level of the International Schools Award, marking an important step in its growing international work and forming an exciting connection with Uganda. The award recognises how schools bring global learning into everyday practice, and at Fen Park this has taken shape through a developing partnership with St Agnes Nursery and Primary School, based in Uganda. The International Schools Award is run by the British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities.

CCS Mountfields Park recently welcomed parents and carers into school for a highly positive exams evening, offering an opportunity to reflect on progress and look ahead to the months leading up to GCSE assessments. The exams evening gave families valuable one-to-one time with Year 11 subject teachers, who shared personalised feedback on each student’s strengths, areas for development, and the practical steps needed to support success in every subject.

A donation of gardening tools from JDM Food Group is supporting hands-on activities for learners at Compass Community School Fen Park—both in the school grounds and out in the local community. JDM Food Group is a UK-based food manufacturer supplying ingredients and products to the food industry.

Boleyn Park staff and learners were pleased to welcome Compass Chair Anne-Marie Carrie and Managing Director of Education Rebecca Slayford for a recent visit. During their time in school, the visitors spent time in classrooms and shared spaces, talking with staff and learners about the work they were doing. Learners were keen to show their work—walking visitors through activities, explaining routines and sharing what they had been focusing on in lessons.

At CCS Lincolnshire, DJing has become a steady and meaningful part of C’s week. He approaches each session with focus, curiosity and a clear desire to improve. This term, C completed his Level 4 and is now making strong, consistent progress towards the next stage—developing his technical skills while learning how to shape his own sound. That commitment carries beyond lessons. After asking for a DJ desk for Christmas, C has been spending his own time composing mixes at home.

Compass Community School Beaumont Park will open in Esher in September 2026, providing a new specialist setting offering transformative, therapeutic education for children and young people. Designed for learners with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Beaumont Park has been created for children who have often found mainstream education difficult to sustain.

This winter, learners at Willow Dean have embraced the outdoors in a brilliant way—by joining the RSPB Big Bird Watch as part of their Forest School experience. Armed with binoculars, notepads and plenty of patience, learners observed and identified the wide variety of birds that visited their forest site. They built a bird hide to quietly observe wildlife, and crafted bird feeders and nest boxes to support local birdlife.
