A, a primary learner at CCS Eld Park, recently took on a hands-on enrichment challengeâdesigning and building a working cable car from scratch.
Using a Kraul Discovery Kit that, on this occasion, came without instructions, A set about figuring out how to bring the structure to life. With encouragement and guidance from his teacher, the learner explored how the components might fit together, gradually working out how to attach the pulley joints between a tree branch and the school wall.
After some testing and thoughtful adjustments, Aâs efforts paid off. The result was a fully functioning cable system, complete with a basket that glided along the line. A soft toy bear was first to climb aboard, making its way through the trees in a hand-built cable car.
The task provided a brilliant opportunity to think practically and develop ideas through trial and error. A showed real patience and care as he refined his workâlearning through doing and building confidence along the way.
Staff were impressed by Aâs focus and the pride he clearly felt in his achievement. The finished project was a real success, and a lovely example of whatâs possible when learners are given the freedom to experimentâsupported every step of the way to keep going until something clicks.
