Learners MC, OB, HS, SF, and RB from Compass Community School Boleyn Park recently joined over 500 children with disabilities, from across East Anglia, for an inspiring sports experience day. The event, hosted by the Presidentâs Sporting Club, took place at Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre.
The day offered these learners a chance to explore a wide range of sportsâmany for the very first time. From aerobics to volleyball, and everything in between, the emphasis was firmly on enjoyment and experience. CCS learners got stuck into taster sessions including badminton, table tennis, golf, football, athletics, basketball, trampolining and rugby. A selection of bouncy castles also added to the fun.
Celebrating the sporting potential of young people, each participant received a commemorative medal and a t-shirt, along with a packed lunch provided by organisers. A highlight for many was meeting sporting legends like former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, cricket star Graham Gooch, Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Challis, and the Mayor of Chelmsford, Janette Potter.
One learnerâs talent, SF, caught the eye of the table tennis coach and was invited to join a local clubâan exciting opportunity sparked by the day.
The eventâs mission was simple but powerful: to provide learners with new experiences that may inspire a lifelong passion for sport. Judging by the smiles and enthusiasm on display, it certainly delivered.
Compass Community School Boleyn Park learners left the event feeling energised and inspiredâready to bring that same enthusiasm to their PE lessons and future sporting adventures.
