Learners at Fen Park are enjoying a range of imaginative lessons that connect with real-life experiences and support their personal development.
A great example of this is the rotating role play corner in their primary classroom. This week, itâs been set up as a hair salon. In other weeks, learners have run a cafĂ©, cared for animals at a vetâs or taken on shop assistant roles. These themed spaces support life skills such as communication, turn-taking and problem solving. Staff and peers join in with the role play, encouraging interaction and helping learners stay engaged.
In another recent session, pupils explored shapes using physical resources. The learners at Fen Park respond well to hands-on activities that make abstract ideas more accessible. These inclusive approaches support engagement and help make learning stick.
As in other Compass schools, every activity is shaped around the needs of the individual, with staff adapting lessons to build confidence and spark curiosity. Role-playing at the till or building patterns with foam shapes keeps learners actively involved in their own progress, along with sparking curiosity about future possibilities.
By building imagination into the structure of the day, staff create opportunities for meaningful learning at every level. Itâs a reminder of how thoughtful planning and creative approaches can turn a classroom into a place where skills grow naturallyâand every learner has a chance to thrive.
