A year 10 student from CCS Hemsworth has recently secured a dream placement, carrying out voluntary work on a local farm.
Swithen’s Farm, near Leeds, is a long-established working farm, which also offers days out and opportunities to meet the animals.
Hemsworth’s student is volunteering on the farm, once every week, as an initiative to help him develop his communication, listening and independence skills – all while exploring his passion for working with animals.
The initial induction visit was very successful, and included a tour of the farm and a detailed explanation of what the placement would involve. Since starting the placement, the student has enjoyed helping to feed and look after the animals.
He is also, quite rightly, proud of the maturity and work ethic that he has demonstrated whilst working there. This, in turn, is having a very positive impact on his relationship with his school and is helping him to focus on his future after Compass.
This is an ongoing placement, with no end date yet established. Well done to this young farmer of the future. And the very best of luck! ⭐
