🤞Helpful Tips for a Calm and Effective Revision Journey

If you’re getting ready to take your GCSEs this year, you’re not alone. It’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions, especially when something matters to you. The good news is, there are simple, effective ways to make revision more manageable and less overwhelming.

You don’t need to do it all at once. Start small, be kind to yourself, and build up from there. Here’s a list of helpful hints to guide you – each one designed to support both your learning and your wellbeing. You’ve got this! 😊

  • Give yourself plenty of time
Starting your revision early can help you feel more in control and less rushed. A little each day really does add up.
  • Build a revision timetable that works for you
Planning ahead can help you balance your time across subjects. It’s okay to tweak your plan as you go – flexibility is key.
  • Find a space where you feel comfortable
Choose a spot that helps you stay focused, whether that’s a quiet room or a cosy corner in the library. A tidy space can make a big difference.
  • Try out different ways to revise
Mind maps, flashcards, short notes, voice recordings – everyone learns differently. It’s all about finding what works best for you.
  • Have a go at some past papers
Practising questions can help you get used to how things are asked in exams. Don’t worry if it feels tricky at first – it’s all part of the process.
  • Take regular breaks
Short bursts of revision, with breaks in between, can help you stay fresh and focused. Rest is part of learning too.
  • Keep distractions to a minimum
It can help to put your phone out of reach during revision time. Try setting it aside for a little while – you can always check it during your break.
  • Look after yourself
Good sleep, regular meals, fresh air, and movement all support your brain and body while you study. Your well-being matters most.
  • Explore what helps you focus
Some people work well with music, others prefer quiet. Experiment and go with what helps you feel calm and clear-headed.
  • Take it steady on exam day
Giving yourself time to arrive and settle in can make a real difference. A calm start can set the tone for the whole exam.

Revising for exams can feel like a big task. But by finding approaches that suit you and being kind to yourself along the way, you’ll be giving yourself the best chance to do well.

The best of luck to all our GCSE students!
