🐹Guinea Pigs Make a Therapeutic Impact at Redwood Park

Two new arrivals have joined the Redwood Park community—guinea pigs Salt and Brown Sauce—who are already proving to be a calming and therapeutic presence for learners across the school.

The guinea pigs have quickly become a popular feature of daily life. Learners are engaging positively with them, and staff have observed the impact this is having on emotional regulation and wellbeing. Quiet time with the animals appears to support focus, reduce anxiety, and encourage gentle communication.

Animals like guinea pigs are widely recognised for their therapeutic value. Their presence can support learners in developing nurturing behaviours, building trust, and learning how to manage sensory input in a controlled and reassuring environment.

Salt and Brown Sauce have a dedicated space in school, where learners can visit, help with care routines, and enjoy time in a peaceful setting. Feeding, cleaning and interacting with them also allows learners to take on age-appropriate responsibility—building confidence and pride in their role.

Redwood Park continues to explore new and creative ways to meet the needs of its learners, and the introduction of the guinea pigs is part of a broader commitment to supporting wellbeing in all its forms.

With their calm nature and cheerful curiosity, Salt and Brown Sauce are already valued members of the Redwood Park team—bringing warmth and comfort to the school community, one squeak at a time.
