GCSE art students at Mountfields Park went on a photographic field trip, as a part of their GCSE art coursework.
The visit took place on the 2nd October, in response to the student voice request that West Midlands Safari Park was the place of choice for the trip’s theme.
Once inside the safari park, the year 11 Achieve class were able to use their photographic skills to develop their GCSE folios. By photographing the wide range of species at the park, students were able to fulfil the assessment criteria – that pupils must take photos for their portfolio – as well as taking part in trips to inform their portfolio. The group drove around the park, so that students were able to take pictures of the larger animals. They then went on foot to see the smaller animals.
Trip organiser, Elizabeth Hinds was delighted by the trip’s success. “A great day for the pupils involved,” she said. “Something different for them to take part in and something that they had a say in.”
As a result of the trip, all pupils were able to get amazing pictures – which they can add to their portfolios and use to create drawings from. The high quality work carried out on the visit will certainly contribute positively to students’ final GCSE grades. Due to the success of the trip, it is likely that similar visits will be planned for the future.
