Learners at CCS Lancashire have been making steady progress in developing their school garden, combining practical activities with essential life skills.
As part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award work, theyāve created a multi-food bird feeder thatās proving popular with local wildlife. Peppers are growing well in window boxes, and there are plans to expand into large planters with a variety of fruit and vegetables.
While the idea of keeping chickens was discussed, concerns about local foxes led the group to focus instead on encouraging butterflies as a safer and more sustainable option.
The project is designed to build skills such as budgeting, shopping and plant care. Learners are involved in planning, sourcing materials and maintaining the garden space, which encourages independence and responsibility.
Staff have praised the groupās teamwork and creative thinking, noting how the garden has become a space for learning, reflection and shared achievement.
CCS Lancashireās garden is already yielding resultsāand thereās plenty of ambition for whatās next.
