As part of their preparations for the launch of their new school, CCS Lincolnshire Fen Park held an open day, and later on a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Open day
Their open day on 20th September took place between 10am and 2pm and was a great opportunity for members of the public and other potential stakeholders to see Compass’ newest school, as well as to meet staff before it opened.
All of Fen Park’s staff took an active role in the open day, whether that was welcoming people, giving guided tours or running a number of activities – which included defusing a “bomb” by solving maths problems. The event was well received by the visitors, who took a real interest in the school. Among the highlights of the tour was the Past/ Present project that HLTA, Danielle Vickers, created.
By opening its doors to members of the public, Fen Park was able to share its vision with the community and allay potential concerns they may have had. Past pupils and the site’s former headteacher were also on hand to give a history of the building’s previous incarnation.
Macmillan coffee morning
As well as helping with the open day, Fen Park’s staff very kindly made cakes in preparation for the Macmillan coffee morning, which they ran on Friday 27th September. 🍵Teaching Assistant, Samatha Hull, came up with the idea – which was very well received by the local community. Highlights of the morning included Beth Newman’s Malteser cake – which by all accounts was amazing! 🍰
Visitors to the coffee morning commented on how bright and airy the school is, joking that they will return every Friday for more tea and cake! Fen Park’s staff would like to thank all those who attended (raising around £130 for Macmillan) and hope to welcome everyone again soon.
