Eld Park students have reason to be proud of themselves, after 100% of the cohort improved their reading ages during autumn 2024. Students’ dedication to reading for pleasure, making use of opportunities to read and even enjoying a ‘Blind Date with a Book’ have all helped rocket them towards success. Popular titles have included Horrid Henry, Rabbit & Bear and the Heartbreaker series.
If this wasn’t enough, the spring term will see the launch of a new library space for secondary age learners – complete with an intervention area, comfortable areas to read and a wide range of books to suit everyone. Students will be able to borrow books using their very own library card and experience being a ‘library monitor’ for a week at a time.
Staff and students are also working hard to update the primary library area, creating a quiet space for younger learners to read independently. This second space will be packed with age-appropriate reading materials and introduce primary pupils to taking responsibility for this space.
Eld Park will be celebrating the new library zones with a launch afternoon in January – featuring cakes, books and goodies for students to take away. This will certainly be an exciting chapter (pardon the pun) for the school, staff and students.
