Eld Park Hatch Chicks in Incubator 🐣

Primary students at CCS Eld Park have hatched their own chicks at school. This was carried out as a focus for their science topic: Living Things.

Before starting the process, students studied how an embryo would develop into a chick and used a microscope to look at the different parts of an egg.

Using equipment and guidance from the company “Living Eggs”, staff and students patiently monitored the embryos’ development. After 3 weeks of incubation, the chicks all hatched successfully.

Students continued to care for them until they were strong enough to be collected by Living Eggs – where they will be ethically rehomed.

Eld Park’s Lucy Holman was delighted at the way the students responded to the project. “It was lovely for all the students in the school to visit the chicks and enjoy handling them carefully,” she said. “They brought a lot of joy.”

Students rounded the project off by creating a display board, which celebrated the project.
