Compass Community Schools celebrate their 10th anniversary this week. 🎉
Back in 2015, CCS North (then known as Modus Academy) became the first of what is now a group of 21 schools – catering for around 350 children across the country.
Although it may seem surprising today, Compass schools’ early years met with occasional resistance from local residents, who were sometimes unsure about the impact of having a SEND school close by. These days, of course, Compass enjoys superb relationships with its neighbours – who are often very proud of what is achieved as a part of their communities.
Students go to Compass Community Schools for many different reasons but, once there, all benefit from the child-centred, therapeutic approach that all Compass schools embrace. Their overarching ethos to “Motivate, Educate and Inspire” has helped to put countless children back on a path to future success and continues to do so at pace.
The Compass community are clearly very proud of their work with young people. As a part of the celebrations, headteachers have been asked to give their thoughts on what they believe to be the best things about Compass schools. Here is a selection of their quotes.

With a clear eye on the future, Compass plan to help even more children in the years to come. Current plans aim to double the pupil cohort within the next 5 years – perhaps doubling the number of schools within the next 10.
As a part of this plan, the organisation looks forward to working even more closely with local authorities – helping to shape the future of SEND education and continuing to meet the needs of children and families well into the future.
