Rebecca is a fully qualified teacher with over 20 years’ experience. Rebecca has worked in mainstream and SEND, she is a specialist in supporting children presenting with social, emotional and mental health difficulties to access education successfully. Rebecca has worked in a wide range of roles across education as a teacher, advisory teacher to mainstream, SENCo and headteacher. Within her current role as executive head teacher, Rebecca oversees Compass Community Schools and a national education service which supports looked after children to access education provision.
Chris Hughes – Regional Head Teacher (DSL)
I have been teaching for 20 years and have spent a considerable amount of my career in inner-city schools in Manchester, predominantly working as part of the Pastoral team as well as teaching ICT and Business lessons. I have been working with Compass since 2016 and love being part of this exciting and developing service.
Lead Teacher (DDSL)
I’m Scott Sykes. I am the Lead at Hemsworth and the current English teacher, I have now been teaching for fourteen years. I was born in Wakefield in 1982, and graduated from Teesside University in 2000 with a B.S.c (Hons) and completed my PGCE at Huddersfield University in 2006. After I finished university, I have worked in FE Colleges and more recently E.B.D Schools in which I try to improve young people’s lives and actively look to implement positive change.
My name is Nazia Sarwar and I have recently joined the Compass team as the Maths teacher at Maple house after working in mainstream primary and secondary schools for 20 years. I graduated as a teacher at Leeds University with a BEd Hons in Primary teaching. I’m a very energetic and active individual and feel very passionate about working with EBD pupils with a natural flare. I look forward to working with and teaching young people and making positive changes to their lives and to mine.

My name is Neil Carpenter and I was born in Leeds in 1972. I have been working in EBD schools for a couple of years and join Compass as a HLTS,but prior to that, I spent 10 years as a Prison Officer at HMP Wealstun near Leeds. Unfortunately I had to retire from the service due to injury . After recovering from surgery, I decided to find work with children that could benefit from my experiences and knowledge. I look forward to a long and successful career with Compass.
