After attending a post-16 open day, R from CCS Coastal Park, knew exactly what he wanted to do next – join a football academy. With a clear goal in mind, the year 11 student threw himself into the process by attending multiple trials throughout the year. His dedication paid off when he was selected to take part in the final round of try-outs – a significant achievement in itself.
To secure his place, he also needed to meet academic requirements, including specific GCSEs and a strong result in his BTEC sport course. He rose to the challenge by working tirelessly both in the classroom and on the pitch.
Last week, while at school, R received the exciting news – he had been accepted! Overjoyed by this news, he was keen to share his news with staff and students.
He is now set to train daily and play for a semi-professional football club over the next two years, while also studying for his Level 3 BTEC in sport. This qualification will open up a variety of career pathways in the sports industry – from coaching and physiotherapy to personal training, or even professional football.
Everyone at CCS Coastal Park is incredibly proud of their student and all he has achieved. His PE and BTEC teacher was understandably delighted for him, saying that, “R has worked so hard for this. He’s put in extra hours—time and time again—and stayed committed to his goal for over a year. He’s also been a brilliant role model to our younger students, many of whom now want to follow in his footsteps.”
This year, Coastal Park students continue to demonstrate what’s possible when they are supported to pursue their ambitions – through determination, high-quality teaching, and the kind of nurturing environment that builds resilience and pride.
