Over the past five weeks, students at CCS Eld Park have been conducting a mock police investigation as part of their Society We Live In topic.
This has been a highly engaging experience that brought forensic science and justice procedures to life. Students began by discussing how to approach a crime scene and identifying what offences may have occurred. They then attended the scene of a fictional burglary, where a window had been broken and computers taken from the IT room.
Taking on the role of Scene of Crime Officers (SOCOs), students carefully gathered evidence while avoiding cross contamination. They examined fibres, lifted and analysed fingerprints, used UV torches to reveal hidden marks and tested ink samples.
Throughout the investigation, students interviewed witnesses and followed forensic leads. Their detailed enquiries led them to identify two suspects, whom they arrested and interviewed.
In their final session this week, students will step into the courtroom for a mock Crown Court trial. With the evidence stacked up against the suspects, it promises to be a dramatic conclusion to this imaginative and hands-on project.
