Year 8 and 9 students from Boleyn Park recently enjoyed a trip to a rare breeds farm.
Hadleigh Farm, in Essex, is a commercial farm and rare breeds centre that is committed to environmental and social progress. They hosted the visit, where students were able to find out about different rare breed animals and what needs to be done to look after them.
Students were lucky enough to be able to enjoy a “meet the animals” presentation, where they had the opportunity to hold some of the animals that live at the farm. They then went on to tour the farm – feeding a variety of farm animals as they did so. Having interacted with the animals in this very positive setting, students had lunch in the farm’s café, which was run by neurodivergent volunteers.
This was a highly successful trip, with all students really enjoying their interactions with the animals – particularly when they were allowed to hold them. (Some of Boleyn’s students had never stroked or held an animal before. 🐑)
Stroking a guinea pig was the thing that one year 8 student loved the most about the trip, with a year 9 particularly enjoying seeing and feeding the pigs.
Having seen how much Boleyn Park students loved this trip, staff say they are likely to try and put it on again. Many thanks to all involved. ⭐
