To mark the lead up to Remembrance Day, staff and year 9 students at Boleyn Park laid a wreath at Southend-on-Sea’s Cenotaph.
The wreath, which was created in art lessons, was made from modroc (casting plaster) and paper poppies. Students also wrote a poem, to be laid with the wreath.
Students and staff then visited the Cenotaph, where they were able to reflect on the sacrifices made by service men and women and pay their respects to them. “It was great to see the children place the wreath that they helped to make,” said Boleyn Park TA Faye.
Students had previously learned about Remembrance Day and the importance of observing it. As a part of their reflections, the students practiced a two minute silence in assembly, in preparation for 11th November.
Having visited the Cenotaph, staff and students shared the view that they will be continuing to observe Remembrance Day and will never forget.
