Compass Community School Athelstan Park is a part of a passionate, well respected and forward-thinking family of schools throughout the country.
We are an independent specialist day school providing high-quality, therapeutic and child-centred education to boys and girls from 6 to 17 years of age in Westbury, Wiltshire. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. Many will have suffered significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences and may have social care involvement.

We are all primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships and motivating students so that they can wring every last drop of from the curriculum and opportunities we offer.
Compass Community School teachers inspire children, creating a sense of awe and wonder and making subjects and lessons real and relevant to them. They plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities which challenge and push students whether they are working on the very basics or they are have a special talent or passion for the subject.
Our children require very special teachers who are able to manage some complex and challenging behaviours. They will know that our children require lots of attention, the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach. They need to be resilient and solution focussed in order to meet the needs of our children but they also have fantastic resources at their fingertips including robust and meaningful schemes of work and high-quality resources, well managed and enthusiastic support staff and TAs and a passionate and driven community of professionals to lean on including a responsive and experienced SLT, SENCOs, programme psychologists, therapeutic professionals and pastoral leads. This means teachers can focus on what is important: differentiation, personalisation and bespoke, quality first teaching in small, nurturing classes.
