Students and staff at CCS Seacole Park came together on 8th May 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a whole-school celebration that combined learning, reflection and a shared sense of occasion.
Throughout the week, VE Day was the focus of daily registration time ā with teachers helping students explore its historical significance. Learners contributed to the preparations, supported by teaching assistants who created flags and bunting to decorate the school.
On the day itself, the entire school observed a two-minute silence to honour those who served in the Second World War. This was followed by a special themed lunch, generously provided in collaboration with a local primary school, and accompanied by a VE Day-inspired soundtrack.
The commemorations helped deepen studentsā understanding of the importance of the day. One learner shared, āIāve heard of VE Day before but I never knew what it was. Now I understand the meaning behind it and think itās respectful to observe the two-minute silence.ā
Deputy headteacher, Alex Reveley, described the occasion as āa lovely day of celebration which learners thoroughly enjoyed and learnt a lot from.ā
Looking ahead, learners will take the lead in planning next yearās event ā including preparing the dessert.
