Learners from CCS Hampshire Hop Pickers recently enjoyed an engaging visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, bringing their current learning to life through real-world experiences.
The group explored the historic ships on site, including HMS Victory and HMS Warrior—gaining insight into life at sea across different periods of British naval history. Whilst on board the ships, learners tried out a hammock and saw how a canon was fired. They also visited the Mary Rose Museum, where they learned more about the famous Tudor warship and the lives of those who served on board.
A walk around the harbour gave students a broader sense of the dockyard’s scale and significance. Throughout the day, they deepened their understanding of the past through observation, discussion and hands-on exploration.
Learners’ engagement throughout the trip was exemplary, with everyone thoroughly enjoying the day.
